"In 2021 Sam had surgery to remove what they thought was a benign teratoma tumor. Unfortunately pathology came back and the cells had metastasized and he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma. 

Four 12+ hour surgeries, many rounds of radiation and chemo cycles later we have been told there is no cure. Johns Hopkins and Sloan Kettering gave Sam their best but ultimately the answer is “you’re going to die within the year, go spend time with your family.” This isn’t an answer he can accept with a wife and 5 month old baby. Countless searches and phone calls led him to speak with a doctor in Arizona that gave them hope. He made the decision to pack up with his wife and kid, stop the chemo immediately and move across the country from Maryland to Arizona with two day notice to start alternative cancer treatments. 

He started his treatment at Euromed three weeks ago. This treatment unfortunately is not covered by insurance. And if by some miracle it does work, it will be a long road ahead. Praying this is the beginning of the road to recovery."

Samuel has played golf his whole life and started a page called 'Swing Hard Make Birdies' to give golf lessons when he was diagnosed and had to leave his job as a pediatric nurse. We used this slogan in our bracelets for his collection (S.H.M.B.) and also tried to make several waterproof/sweatproof options that are golf and crossfit friendly for Sam and his friends!
